Tears flow as uMlazi families receive homes

Ward 82 Councillor Sibusiso Cele handed over five houses to beneficiaries in uMlazi as part of the of the R293 Housing Project.

DIGNITY was restored for three uMlazi families when they received the keys to their new houses which were built under the R293 Housing Project. The families previously lived in old, dilapidated houses. Among the recipients was Siyabonga Mbambo and Busisiwe Gebashe. Both families could not contain their happiness when Ward 82 Councillor Sibusiso Cele handed over the keys.

Mbambo said receiving a house was a “dream come true”. “I have been living in a house that was in a bad condition. My two-room house was very old and dilapidated but today I thank eThekwini Municipality, the Provincial Department of Human Settlements, our Ward Councillor Sibusiso Cele, the RDZ Construction Company and other stakeholders.” Another recipient Busisiwe Gebashe failed to express her emotions after receiving the key to her new house. “I live with 10 family members under one roof. However, today our lives will change. Neighbors mocked our dilapidated house but today God has wiped away our tears and brought us joy,” said Gebashe.

Councillor Cele said five houses were handed to beneficiaries under the R293 Housing Project. “There were thirty houses built in total, and all have been handed over. During the new financial year, we aim to build more houses under the R293 Project,” said Councillor Cele. He said other projects are taking place in the ward to improve service delivery and change residents’ lives.
