City delegation to visit London to promote investment opportunities
ETHEKWINI Mayor Zandile Gumede will travel to London to represent the City at a number of high-level meetings. Councillor Gumede will be accompanied by a small delegation including the Deputy Chairperson of the Economic Development and Planning Committee Councillor Nkosenhle Madlala and the Acting Deputy City Manager of Economic Development and Planning (ECOD) Phillip Sithole.
The delegation will represent eThekwini Municipality at the following meetings:
  • The Annual Debate – Business Council for Africa 2017 on 22 March;
  • National Geographic Society and Discovery/Eurosport meetings on 23 and 24 March respectively; and
  • The SA High Commissioner meeting on 23 March.
The Annual Debate will provide a platform for officials to showcase the City’s investment strengths and business development while strengthening governmental relations. The themes of the 2017 edition include “Is Technology capable of transforming Africa?”, “Impact Investment: The Way Forward” and “Rapid Urbanisation: Strength or Weakness?” Sithole has planned a scouting trip to London to facilitate the hosting of investment and tourism meetings as part of the Ebandla Programme in partnership with the African Renaissance Project Director.

Officials will engage on tourism and business trade engagements. The trip will also provide an opportunity to evaluate the City’s international marketing programmes which have been the cornerstones of the Durban Tourism Visitor Strategy. Councillor Gumede said the delegation will be able to finalise all the above meetings on one trip and save costs of further trips.
